Types of Glass: Exploring Varieties and Applications

Annealed Glass

Annealed glass is cost-effective and made by gradual cooling inside a temperature-controlled furnace.

Applications:

  • General-purpose use where high strength isn’t critical.
  • Tabletops
  • Framed glass panels
  • Small windows.

Heat Strengthened Glass:

Heated annealed glass rapidly cooled for increased strength and heat resistance.

Applications:

  • Commercial building windows.
  • Vehicle side and rear windows.

Toughened Glass (Tempered Glass)

4-5 times stronger than annealed glass due to surface compression and central tension.

Applications:

  • Automobile windshields.
  • Building windows.
  • Glass doors and tables.
