Tinted Float Glass

Colored float glass, also known as tinted glass, is created by adding metal oxides to molten clear glass during the manufacturing process. The glass is heated to around 1800°C, and the oxides infuse the entire batch, resulting in a consistent color throughout the glass. The density of the color increases with the glass’s thickness. Tinted glass offers several benefits:

  • Visual Appeal: Colored float glass comes in various shades, including bronze, gray, green, and blue. Architects and designers use these tints to enhance aesthetics in both interior and exterior applications.
  • Solar Control: Tinted glass reduces glare and heat gain by absorbing and reflecting sunlight. It’s commonly used in windows, doors, and curtain walls to create comfortable indoor environments while maintaining a pleasing exterior appearance.
  • Privacy: Depending on the tint strength, it provides varying levels of privacy. Lighter tints allow more visibility, while darker tints offer greater privacy.
  • UV Protection: Tinted glass filters harmful UV rays, protecting interiors from fading and maintaining the longevity of furnishings and artwork.

Whether used in residential or commercial spaces, colored float glass combines functionality with design, making it a versatile choice for architectural projects.
